Our aim is to add useful information without taking away the simplicity, reliability and tactile feedback of a traditional white cane.
Our approach
SmartCane.ca is developing a sensor-assisted cane concept for people who are blind or have low vision. The design begins with a familiar folding cane and adds learnable directional vibration and status cues.
We believe responsible assistive technology should be honest about its limits. That means supervised evaluation, accessible documentation, privacy-conscious features, repairability and close collaboration with users and orientation and mobility professionals.
Evidence-led
Claims should follow documented testing and never promise detection in every situation.
Accessible by default
Readable content, tactile controls, clear feedback and practical support are core product requirements.
